[II. TEAM OF EIGHT MOMENT ]

NOW WE'LL MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ITEM ON OUR AGENDA IS OUR TEAM OF EIGHT MOMENT BOARD MEMBERS, MR. KABUL. YEAH IF YOU DON'T MIND, I WOULD LIKE TO START WITH A COUPLE OF THINGS. FIRST OF ALL, TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SLI. THE SUMMER LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE. THIS IS WHERE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO COMPLETE MOST OF THEIR CREDIT HOURS REQUIRED BY THE STATE ON A YEARLY BASIS, NEW BOARD MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE 18 CREDIT HOURS AND EXPERIENCE TRUSTEES ARE REQUIRED 12. AND THESE REQUIREMENTS WENT UP TWO CREDIT HOURS WITH THE ADDITION OF COURSES ON SCHOOL SAFETY AND CYBERSECURITY, WHICH WE HAVE BEEN TAKING THE PAST FEW YEARS, I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO ADD ACTUALLY, 11 CREDITS TO MY COUNT THIS PAST SLI. SO I KNOW SOME OF US OR MOST OF US, TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THAT. AND I THINK THAT'S VERY IMPORTANT FOR US. WE ALSO HAVE ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES WITH, FOR NORTH TEXAS AREA ASSOCIATION MEETINGS EACH YEAR. THE TASB CONFERENCE AND CLASSES THAT ARE HOSTED BY REGION TEN EDUCATION. CENTER, ANYWAYS, SO THAT'S ONE THING I WANTED TO TALK ABOUT. SLI IS VERY IMPORTANT TO US. THE OTHER

[00:05:06]

THING IS WE GOT A RECAP FROM THE LEGISLATIVE REPORT ON, THINGS THAT HAPPENED WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION WHERE THE STATE BOARD MET LAST WEEK TO DISCUSS SOME SOME ISSUES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH TRAINING STANDARDS FOR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AND SOME PROCESSES AND CHARTER APPLICATIONS. THE BOARD ENTERED INTO A DISCUSSION ABOUT BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR SCHOOL BOARD TRAINEES THAT EVENTUALLY TURNED INTO A CONVERSATION OF ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR AND TOPICS OF CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR TRUSTEES. SO LOOK AT THOSE HOURS TO BE INCREASING, POSSIBLY IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS. IT HAPPENS. I THINK IT'S VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE EVEN AS A DISTRICT, WE BELIEVE IN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND I'D LIKE PEOPLE TO KNOW OUR CONSTITUENTS, TO KNOW THAT WE EDUCATE OURSELVES AS WELL. THAT'S VERY IMPORTANT, FIVE CHARGERS WERE ON THE DOCKET TO BE APPROVED. FOUR OF THEM WERE APPROVED, BY THE COMMISSIONER AND THE, SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION, STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION, ONE IN ARLINGTON, ONE IN BIG SPRINGS, AUSTIN, AND MAYNARD. THEY REJECTED ONE, WHICH IS A VISIONARY STEM ACADEMY THAT WAS, PROPOSED FOR TERRELL. SO THEY'RE GOING TO TAKE THAT ONE TO THE NEXT MEETING. BUT THERE ARE THINGS ARE MOVING ALONG, WE'RE GETTING READY FOR, VERY INTERESTING LEGISLATIVE SESSION THIS NEXT YEAR. SO WE'LL KEEP YOU POSTED. THAT'S WHAT I HAVE. WE, SEVERAL OF US HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TOUR THE FRESHMAN WING OF JOHN HORNE HIGH SCHOOL, AND IT'S ALMOST COMPLETE. BUT, THIS THIS FACILITY IS BEING CONSTRUCTED FOR OUR FRESHMEN AT HORNE HIGH SCHOOL, AND IT COMPLIES WITH THE TIA STANDARDS OF CONSTRUCTION. IT ALSO COMPLIES WITH SENATE BILL 11 REGARDING SAFETY AND SECURITY. BUT THERE ARE SEVERAL AREAS OF, COLLABORATIVE COLLABORATION, WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT, THAT, STUDENTS CAN MOVE INTO THESE AREAS AND IT HELPS REGARDING THE REQUIRED SPACE FOR THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT THEY HAVE. BUT THIS COMMUNITY IS TO BE COMMENDED FOR, I GUESS EVER SINCE THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT CAME INTO FRUITION BACK AROUND 1900, THE PATRONS OF THIS COMMUNITY HAVE ALWAYS SUPPORTED BOND REFERENDUMS. AND, OUR LAST ONE WAS, OVER $300 MILLION. I KNOW THAT BASED ON THE CONDITION OF SOME OF OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS NOW, THE MAJORITY OF OUR SCHOOLS ARE GREAT AREA AND VERY CONDUCIVE FOR STUDENTS TO MEET AND TO LEARN. BUT WE'LL HAVE SOME FACILITIES THAT WILL WE WILL NEED TO LOOK AT POSSIBLY REPLACING IN ANOTHER BOND REFERENDUM. SO THIS COMMUNITY SHOULD BE, COMMENDED FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF THE PAST BOND PROGRAMS THAT WE'VE HAD. AND WE ANTICIPATE THAT, THE PATRONS OF THE COMMUNITY WILL SUPPORT THOSE IN THE FUTURE AS WELL. I HAD A COUPLE THINGS. I APPRECIATE YOU BRINGING THAT UP ABOUT THE FRESHMAN CENTER. MR. EVERETT, I WANTED TO THANK DON POOLE, J. RUSSELL AND SCOTT OWENS AND THEIR TEAM, FOR TAKING US ON A VAN TOUR. IT WAS CALLED A BUS TOUR, BUT WE GOT THE VANS, WHICH WERE AIR CONDITIONED, WHICH WAS NICE, BUT, WE GOT TO LOOK AT THE REMODEL OF THE OLD ADMIN BUILDING FOR ATHLETICS. OUR OUR SCOTT OWENS TEAM DID A FANTASTIC JOB ON THAT, BUILDING. IT'S FABULOUS FOR THEM. AND THE REMODEL OF THE OLD LEARNING CENTER FOR THE CLINIC AND PHARMACY IS COMING ALONG. WELL, THAT'S GOING TO BE A GREAT ADDITION FOR OUR COMMUNITY AND FOR OUR STAFF. AND OF COURSE, THE FRESHMAN CENTER. AND I KNOW WE'RE PROBABLY GOING TO RECOGNIZE THIS GROUP DOWN THE ROAD. BUT SINCE IT CAME OUT THE OTHER DAY, THEY WERE IN, ORLANDO VANGUARD HIGH SCHOOLS TSA ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN TEAM PLACED FIRST IN THE NATION AT THE TECHNOLOGY STUDENT ASSOCIATION NATIONAL CONFERENCE. AND FOLKS, THAT'S AN AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENT, ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR A SCHOOL THAT'S BEEN IN SESSION FOR THREE YEARS. AND BOARD MEMBERS, I HAVE ADDED TO YOUR PACKET THAT YOU HAVE IN FRONT OF YOU A COPY OF THE FRAMEWORK FOR SCHOOL BOARD DEVELOPMENT. AS MR, CARVEL TALKED ABOUT TRAINING, IT TALKS TO YOU ABOUT DIFFERENT THINGS THAT THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION SAYS, THAT WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE GET THE TRAINING IN THOSE AREAS. SO THAT WILL HELP YOU DESIGN WHAT YOU WANT TO DO AT THE CONFERENCE AS

[00:10:04]

WE COME UP IN THE FUTURE. AND LASTLY, I WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT OF PERSONAL PRIVILEGE, AND I WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE AND THANK MISS ELAINE HORNSBY FOR HER DEDICATED SERVICE AS MESQUITE ISD BOARD PRESIDENT. THIS PAST YEAR. HER LEADERSHIP. THANK YOU. HER LEADERSHIP FOSTERED A COLLABORATIVE AND INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT BY VALUING THE VOICES OF STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND PARENTS. MRS. MISS HORNSBY'S EFFORTS HAVE BEEN PIVOTAL IN THE PROMOTING OF EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE EXCELLENCE ENSURING STUDENT SAFETY, AND MAINTAINING HIGH ACADEMIC STANDARDS. AGAIN, I WANT TO EXTEND MY DEEPEST GRATITUDE TO MISS ELAINE HORNSBY FOR HER TIRELESS EFFORTS, HER LEADERSHIP AND DEDICATION TO THE BETTERMENT OF MESQUITE ISD. THANK YOU. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

ALWAYS MY PRIVILEGE. ALWAYS THANK YOU. THANK YOU. IF THERE'S NOTHING ELSE ON THE TEAM OF

[III. AUDIENCE ]

EIGHT MOMENT, WE'LL MOVE ON IN THE AGENDA. WE'LL NOW HAVE AN AUDIENCE SECTION. DO WE HAVE ANYBODY SIGNED UP? NOBODY. THANK YOU. NOW WE'LL MOVE ON TO STUDENT AND STAFF GUESTS. DO WE

[IV. STUDENT AND STAFF GUESTS ]

HAVE ANY OF THOSE TODAY? I DON'T THINK WE DO. DO WE? THEN WE'LL MOVE ON TO THE CONSENT AGENDA.

[V. CONSENT AGENDA ]

BOARD MEMBERS, IS THERE ANY ITEM ON THE CONSENT AGENDA YOU WISH TO HAVE PULLED AND DEALT WITH SEPARATELY? IF NOT, I'LL ENTERTAIN A MOTION. WELL MR. PRESIDENT, ACTUALLY, I DON'T WANT TO PULL ANY ITEM, BUT I DO WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE NOTICE THAT WE HAVE A COUPLE OF, COMMITTEES ON THE CONSENT AGENDA TO APPROVE, AND I THINK THEY'RE GOING TO BE VERY IMPORTANT TO US MOVING FORWARD. ONE TALKING ABOUT SCHOOL BOARD, PROSPECTIVE BOARD MEMBERS AND COMMUNITY INFORMATION PROGRAMS. AND THE OTHER COMMITTEE IS GOING TO BE LOOKING AT THE ONBOARDING OF NEW BOARD MEMBERS ON A SPECIAL SUBCOMMITTEE. SO I THINK THOSE, ARE GOING TO BENEFIT US AS PART OF OUR STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES. AND WITH THAT, I WOULD LIKE TO, MAKE A MOTION THAT WE APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA. SECOND, IT WAS THAT MR. MASON, I HAVE A MOTION BY MR. KARBO TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA, AS IS, AND A SECOND BY MISS HORNSBY. ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, PLEASE INDICATE BY SAYING I, I, I THOSE OPPOSED SAME SIGN.

MOTION PASSES SEVEN ZERO. WE WILL NOW MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA. REPORTS OF

AND ALL RIGHT, LET ME GET MYSELF TOGETHER. ALL RIGHT? I SAT BEHIND THE DESK, AND IT'S SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT THE DESK. AND SO. AND THEY KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. I'M TRYING NOT TO DO ALL THAT ALL RIGHT NOW, BUT SITTING BEHIND THE DESK, I REALIZED, HAVING HAD THAT UNIQUE EXPERIENCE AND, KNOWING WHAT IT IS THAT I'VE BEEN THROUGH TO GET TO THIS POINT AND THEM KNOWING WHAT IT IS THAT I'VE BEEN THROUGH TO GET TO THIS POINT, IT WAS IT WAS A ROAD. IT WAS A JOURNEY. AND NOW I LEFT BERRY. I FEEL LIKE I LEFT BERRY AS A, MANAGER. AND I'M COMING BACK TO BERRY AS A LEADER. AND, THAT HAS TO DO WITH THE TWO THAT ARE BEHIND ME. IT HAS TO DO WITH THE GREAT, SYSTEMS THAT MESQUITE HAS, AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THAT PEOPLE SAY IS LIKE, YOU HAVE, SHOES TO FEEL LIKE I HAVE BIG SHOES TO FILL. AND I FEEL THAT.

BUT WHAT I, WHAT I THINK AND WHAT I TEND TO LOOK AT IS I'M STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS. AND WHEN I THINK ABOUT THOSE THAT WERE THERE BEFORE ME AND THE THINGS THAT THEY HAVE POURED INTO ME, ONE THING THAT I CAN TELL TO THE BERRY FAMILIES AND TO THE BERRY COMMUNITY IS THAT YOU WILL, YOU WILL STILL RECEIVE THAT COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE, PERSEVERANCE, THAT COMMITMENT TO INTENTIONALITY, AND PASSION AND, EVERYTHING THAT I AM, POURING INTO YOUR, YOUR KIDS, ALL MY TEACHERS, EVERYTHING THAT I AM POURING INTO YOU. WE'RE READY, AND I'M SURE THEY'RE EXCITED ABOUT STARTING THE NEW YEAR AND HELP OUR STUDENTS ALL BE SUCCESSFUL. WITH THAT SAID, WE'RE GOING TO TAKE A FIVE MINUTE BREAK. WE'LL BE BACK STARTING AT 701. THANK YOU.

[00:28:47]

WE WILL NOW RECONVENE FROM OUR BREAK TO GET THIS OVER HERE. WE WILL NOW MOVE UNDER ON THE NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA UNDER EFFECTIVENESS. EFFECTIVENESS REPORT, WILL BE THE ARTS, PRESENTED BY MR. MICHAEL STINGER. ALL RIGHT. GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT SEWARD.

MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, DOCTOR RIVERA, VERY PLEASED TO BRING YOU THE EFFECTIVENESS REPORTS ON THE VISUAL AND THEATER ARTS TONIGHT, SO WE'RE JUST GOING TO START, THE EVENING WITH A LITTLE BIT OF VIDEO THAT SHOWS WHAT WE'VE DONE THIS YEAR.

[00:30:31]

YEAH. I THINK IF WE WOULD HAVE HAD A VIDEO THAT SHOWED ALL THE PICTURES THAT WE TOOK THIS YEAR, IT WOULD PROBABLY BEEN ABOUT TWO HOURS LONG. SO WE CUT DOWN JUST A LITTLE BIT. YEAH, I ONLY HAVE TEN MINUTES. RIGHT, SO WE'LL START WITH THE VISUAL ARTS THIS EVENING, THE FIRST THING ON THE FRONT SCREEN HERE, WE HAVE FOUR OF OUR 2D WORKS THAT WERE ACTUALLY SELECTED FOR STATE, SO WHAT YOU'RE SEEING HERE ARE FOUR WORKS THAT WERE SELECTED FOR STATE BASED COMPETITION. ALL FOUR OF THESE STUDENTS GOT TO GO COMPETE. WE ALSO HAD TWO 3D WORKS THAT WERE, SELECTED AS WELL. SO JUST AS SOME ENROLLMENT FIGURES FOR THIS YEAR, IN ELEMENTARY, WE HAD A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE. AND THANK YOU TO THE ADMINISTRATION, OF MESQUITE ISD FOR MAKING SOMETHING REALLY SPECIAL HAPPEN FOR OUR STUDENTS. WE'RE PRETTY MUCH THE ENVY OF ALL SCHOOL DISTRICTS AROUND US.

I CAN TELL YOU THAT A LOT OF FINE ARTS DIRECTORS CALL AND SAY, HOW DID YOU POSSIBLY DO THIS? AND I SAID, I DIDN'T. THEY CAME TO ME WITH THE IDEA, WHICH IS PRETTY AMAZING THAT WE'RE ABLE TO DO THAT. BUT FOR THE 23, 24 SCHOOL YEAR, WE STOPPED, OFFERING VISUAL ARTS ONLY SECOND, STARTING IN SECOND GRADE THROUGH FIFTH GRADE. AND WE STARTED OFFERING VISUAL ARTS AND ELEMENTARY MUSIC, PRE-K THROUGH FIVE. SO NOW WE OFFER, VISUAL ARTS, PRE-K, FOUR ALL THE WAY THROUGH 12TH GRADE, WHICH IS PRETTY AMAZING. YOU'LL SEE THE ENROLLMENT FIGURES AND HOW THAT PLAYED IN IN JUST A SECOND, BUT FOR NOW, WE ALSO INCREASED THE NUMBER OF MINUTES THAT WE HAVE OUR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN VISUAL ARTS. SO INSTEAD OF EVERY OTHER WEEK FOR THE YOUNGER STUDENTS, NOW THEY HAVE EVERY WEEK CLASS FOR 15 MINUTES. SO WE'RE REALLY INCREASING THE MINUTES. WE'RE GOING TO SEE THE BENEFITS OF THAT FOR YEARS TO COME. IN OUR VISUAL ARTS, WE ARE YOU'LL YOU'LL SEE JUST A SECOND THAT WE ALREADY HAVE REAPED THE BENEFITS OF THAT EXTRA TIME, MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE HAD 2355 STUDENTS ENROLLED, THAT'S A SLIGHT INCREASE, WHICH IS GOOD FOR US BECAUSE WE'RE SEEING WE SAW, MIDDLE SCHOOL ENROLLMENT COME BACK BASICALLY TO PRE-PANDEMIC NUMBERS LAST YEAR, WHERE WE REALLY SAW A GREAT INCREASE THIS YEAR IS IN THE HIGH SCHOOL ENROLLMENT, 2710 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN HIGH SCHOOL VISUAL ARTS, WHICH IS REALLY GREAT.

WE'RE SEEING THAT COME BACK TO PRE-PANDEMIC NUMBERS ABOUT THREE YEARS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE. SO THAT'S REALLY AWESOME. SO YOU CAN SEE THE ENROLLMENT TRENDS IN VISUAL ARTS. AND I PUT THIS GRAPH UP HERE ON PURPOSE, YOU CAN SEE THE DIFFERENCE, OF THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT WE IMPACTED WITH THE VISUAL ARTS THIS YEAR, LAST YEAR 15,417 OF OUR APPROXIMATELY 35,000 STUDENTS, WERE IN VISUAL ARTS, AND THIS YEAR, 24,670. MOST OF THOSE ARE THE ELEMENTARY STUDENTS THAT WERE IMPACTING. NOW, WITH THIS NEW THE NEW SYSTEM. AND IT'S JUST INCREDIBLE TO WATCH THE ART THAT THEY CREATED. AS WE HAD ART SHOWS THIS YEAR, WE HAD KINDERGARTEN KINDERGARTNERS SHOWING ART. THIS YEAR IT WAS THE BEST THING. IT WAS JUST REALLY, REALLY NEAT, A LOT OF PROGRAMS WE DO, HERE IN THE DISTRICT FOR VISUAL ARTS, WE HAVE ART SHOWS FOR ALL LEVELS, WE DO ELEMENTARY ART SHOWS, MIDDLE SCHOOL ART SHOWS, AND HIGH SCHOOL ART SHOWS. WE COMBINE THEM SOME, WE DO THEM SEPARATED, SOME WE DO SOME ON CAMPUSES OUT IN THE COMMUNITY HERE IN THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, REGION, STATE AND STATE COMPETITION. SO VASE IS THE HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITION, THE VISUAL ARTS SCHOLASTIC EVENT, IS THE HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITION.

JUNIOR VASE IS THE MIDDLE SCHOOL COMPETITION. AND TEAM IS THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COMPETITION, WHICH WE HAVE NEVER REALLY COMPETED IN BEFORE. THIS WAS THE FIRST YEAR THAT WE HAD STUDENTS COMPETE IN THE ELEMENTARY TEAM COMPETITION. SO THAT WAS REALLY GREAT FOR OUR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS TO GO, THEY WENT OUT TO FORNEY AND THAT'S WHERE THEY HOST THE COMPETITION. AND SOME OF OUR STUDENTS DID EXTREMELY WELL, WE HAD A VERTICAL TEAM SHOW HELD HERE AT THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING SHOWCASING WORK FROM WORKS FROM EVERY GRADE LEVEL. EVERY SCHOOL IS PRESENTED SO MANY WORKS THAT THEY CAN PRESENT HERE. AND SO ONE OF THE REALLY NEAT THINGS IS TO WATCH, ALMOST A THOUSAND PEOPLE COME IN AND OUT OF THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING THAT NIGHT, AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND PARENTS AND JUST LOOK AT ALL THE ART, SO THEY GET TO SEE WHAT IS CREATED FROM KINDERGARTEN ALL THE WAY THROUGH 12TH GRADE. AND THIS YEAR WE COMBINED THAT, VERTICAL TEAM SHOW WITH OUR AP ART PORTFOLIO REVIEW, WHICH ARE OUR BEST ARTISTS IN THE DISTRICT. WE HAD FIVE SENIOR ARTISTS THAT MADE A FULL PORTFOLIO OF 2D AND 3D ART. AND SO ALL THESE ELEMENTARY STUDENTS ALSO GOT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GET TO THE SENIOR LEVEL AND YOU CREATE A FULL DISPLAY OF YOUR WORK. AND WE GAVE THE AWARDS THAT NIGHT. SO EVERYONE WAS THERE TO CELEBRATE AND RECOGNIZE OUR SENIORS FOR THEIR GREAT WORK, OUR ELEMENTARY FINE ARTS FESTIVAL. WE'VE DONE THAT FOR SEVERAL YEARS. WE DECIDED TO TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF A TWIST ON THAT, ESPECIALLY WITH VISUAL ARTS THIS YEAR, WE WEREN'T VERY HAPPY WITH THE WAY THAT IT WAS

[00:35:01]

DISPLAYED. ART WAS DISPLAYED WHEN WE COMBINED IT ON THE SAME NIGHT WITH THE MUSIC EVENT. SO A LOT OF PEOPLE WOULD JUST WALK BY THE ARTWORK, GO STRAIGHT INTO THE AUDITORIUM AND SIT DOWN. SO THIS YEAR WE SPLIT IT UP A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENTLY. WE BROUGHT OUR OWN ELEMENTARY FINE ARTS FESTIVAL INTO THE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, HAD ALL THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS SHOW THEIR WORK HERE, IN THE BUILDING ON ONE NIGHT. I THINK THAT WAS ACTUALLY A BOARD MEETING NIGHT THAT WE WERE ABLE TO DO THAT ON AND REALLY DO OUR FESTIVAL WELL. HAVE A FULL RECEPTION, HAVE A PRESENTATION. IT WAS REALLY GREAT, ONE OF THE BEST THINGS WE DO IS OUR PRINCIPAL'S CHOICE AWARDS, WHERE EVERY PRINCIPAL IS GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE ONE ART PIECE OF ARTWORK SELECTED AND DISPLAYED HERE AS WELL. AND THEN OF COURSE, OUR HOLIDAY CARD CONTEST, WHICH IS ALWAYS A FUN TIME THAT WE GET TO SEND OUT A REALLY BEAUTIFUL HOLIDAY CARD FROM MISD. SO SOME AWARDS THAT WE HAD THIS YEAR AND, VISUAL ARTS, SIX STUDENTS HAD PIECES ADVANCED TO THE STATE IN VASE COMPETITION. THAT'S ONE OF THE WORKS, RIGHT THERE, WEST MESQUITE HIGH SCHOOL HAD A REALLY COOL ART TEAM. THEY WERE THE SNAKE EYES ART TEAM, AND THEY WERE CHOSEN TO EXHIBIT IN THE SPARK IMMERSIVE ART EXPERIENCE. SO WHAT THEY DID WAS THEY CREATED AN ENTIRE ROOM.

THEY WERE ONE OF ONLY SIX ART TEAMS SELECTED TO DO THIS. IT WAS A COMMON, IN A COLLABORATION WITH MEOW WOLF. AND SO THEY WERE ABLE TO BUILD THEIR ROOM. THAT'S THEM ACTUALLY BUILDING THEIR ROOM AT SPARK IN THAT PICTURE RIGHT THERE. TEAM, WE HAD FOUR STUDENTS WIN TOP OF THE TEAM AWARDS AT THE ELEMENTARY TAG TEAM COMPETITION, WHICH IS REALLY AMAZING. AS A MATTER OF FACT, THE STUDENT THAT YOU SEE IN THE PICTURE RIGHT THERE SCORED A PERFECT SCORE FOR HER WORK, AS AN ELEMENTARY ARTIST. SO THAT WAS REALLY, REALLY COOL. THAT'S HER AND HER ART TEACHER IN THAT PICTURE. AND OF COURSE, THEY HAVE MANY COMMUNITY EVENTS, WEST MESQUITE HIGH SCHOOL DID AN AWESOME PROJECT WHERE THEY HAD, THE STUDENTS CREATED BOWLS THAT WERE SOLD AND THEN ALL THE FOOD, ALL THE, MONEY RAISED WAS DONATED TO A FOOD PANTRY. WE DID, PROJECTS WITH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL WHERE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS CREATED, MONSTERS ON PAPER, AND THEN THE 3D ARTISTS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL ACTUALLY MADE THOSE MONSTERS AND THEN SENT THEM BACK TO THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. SO THEY GOT TO SEE THEIR MONSTER COME TO LIFE, WHICH WAS A REALLY, REALLY COOL EVENT. AND OF COURSE, OUR MOSQUITO. WHAT'S PICTURED HERE IS OUR MESQUITE HIGH SCHOOL ARTIST. ALWAYS GO OUT INTO THE TOWN SQUARE, AT THE HOLIDAY SEASON AND PAINT ALL THE WINDOWS AND JUST SPREAD HOLIDAY CHEER. SO MOVING ON TO THEATER ARTS, YOU'LL SEE PICTURES OF ALL FIVE OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL MUSICALS HERE, ONCE AGAIN, WE HAD FANTASTIC HIGH SCHOOL MUSICALS THIS YEAR, ALL FIVE HIGH SCHOOLS PRESENTED THEM. YOU'LL SEE THAT WE REALLY TOOK A STEP UP THIS YEAR IN SCENE DESIGN, AND, DESIGN OF THE STAGE AND WHAT WE WHAT WAS ACTUALLY SEEN, BY THE AUDIENCE. SO IT WAS REALLY, REALLY GREAT, WORK THIS YEAR BY ALL FIVE OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS.

AND OF COURSE, WE HAVE TO OPEN THE CURTAINS ON THE THEATER. SO IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE HAD 122 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN MIDDLE SCHOOL THEATER ARTS, WHICH IS JUST ABOUT THE SAME AS LAST YEAR, BUT AN INCREASE OVER THE LAST TIME THAT THE ARTS WERE PRESENTED TO YOU TWO YEARS AGO, 1275 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN HIGH SCHOOL THEATER ARTS, WHICH WAS A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE THIS YEAR IN HIGH SCHOOL THEATER ARTS, YOU'LL SEE THAT THEATER ARTS ENROLLMENT HAS REALLY INCREASED, AND IT REALLY INCREASED THE LAST TWO YEARS, AND THIS YEAR ESPECIALLY, WE SAW THE HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL THEATER ARTS COME BACK TO PRE-PANDEMIC PANDEMIC LEVELS, WHICH WAS REALLY GREAT. SO WHAT I WAS LOOKING AT FROM STEVE ANDRE FROM, 20 1819, WE'RE BACK TO THOSE LEVELS IN THEATER ARTS AGAIN, WHICH IS ONCE AGAIN ABOUT THREE YEARS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE.

WE WERE EXPECTING TO SEE A SLIGHT DIP IN THE HIGH SCHOOL AS THE, MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS HAVE STARTED ONLINE, MATRICULATED UP THROUGH THE SYSTEM, AND WE REALLY HAVEN'T SEEN THAT IN EITHER THEATER OR VISUAL ARTS, THEIR ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS. WE DO, MISD THEATER, FALL PRODUCTION. SO WHAT WE DO WITH THIS ONE IS WE ACTUALLY HAVE ONE OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS CREATE ABOUT A 40 MINUTE, ONE ACT PLAY, FOR ALL OF THE THIRD GRADERS, AND THEN WE BUST ALL THE THIRD GRADERS OVER TO THAT HIGH SCHOOL. THEY GET TO SEE THE HIGH SCHOOL STAGE AND AUDITORIUM, AND THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ACTUALLY PRESENT THE SHOW TO EVERY THIRD GRADER IN THE DISTRICT, THE PICTURE RIGHT ABOVE, THAT'S RIGHT ABOVE ENRICHMENTS AND PROGRAMS, WAS THE ACTUAL PRODUCTION THIS YEAR FROM OF THE STUDENTS AT NORTH MESQUITE HIGH SCHOOL. VERY PROUD OF THEM, WE HAD ALL FIVE HIGH SCHOOL MUSICALS. ATTENDANCE WAS VERY, VERY MUCH UP AT OUR HIGH SCHOOL MUSICALS THIS YEAR, EVERY NIGHT THAT I WENT, WE HAD REALLY GREAT ATTENDANCE. I REALLY WANT TO THANK OUR COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT, FOR HELPING US OUT, GET THE WORD OUT AND SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT OUR HIGH SCHOOL MUSICALS. THIS YEAR, MIDDLE SCHOOL, ONE ACT PLAY COMPETITION. WE DID VERY DIFFERENTLY THIS YEAR, WE DECIDED THAT OUR STUDENTS NEED TO SEE, BEING ABLE TO ADVANCE IN A ONE ACT PLAY COMPETITION, BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE WANT THEM TO DO TO CONTINUE TO ADVANCE PAST DISTRICT COMPETITION IN HIGH SCHOOL. SO AS OUR CITY COMPETITION, WE'VE ALWAYS BROKEN IT UP INTO TWO HALVES FIVE MIDDLE SCHOOLS ONE DAY, FIVE MIDDLE SCHOOLS, ANOTHER THIS YEAR, AND THEY'VE ALWAYS CHOSEN AWARD WINNERS FROM THERE. THIS YEAR WE CHOSE TWO AWARD WINNERS FROM EACH OF THOSE, FIVE SCHOOLS AND THEN BROUGHT THOSE FOUR BACK

[00:40:04]

AND DID A SECOND ROUND CITY COMPETITION WHERE WE NAMED A CITY CHAMPION, OF MIDDLE SCHOOL THEATER, WHICH WAS REALLY, REALLY COOL, OUR HIGH SCHOOL ONE ACT PLAY COMPETITION. I'LL TALK ABOUT ALL THE AWARDS WE GOT THERE IN JUST A SECOND, BUT WE, ALL FIVE OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS ONCE AGAIN PARTICIPATED IN A HIGH SCHOOL, ONE ACT PLAY COMPETITION, DID FULL FALL AND SPRING PRODUCTION. SO, IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN TO ONE OF THE FALL PLAYS THAT OUR HIGH SCHOOLS DO, THEY'RE REALLY, REALLY INCREDIBLE. AND THEN BY THE TIME WE GET TO THE SPRING TIME IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL WHERE THEY'RE PUTTING ON THEIR FULL PRODUCTIONS OR POSSIBLY A LITTLE JUNIOR MUSICAL, YOU'LL SEE, YOU WILL REALLY SEE SOME VERY, VERY GREAT, TEACHING, HAPPENING THERE. AND OF COURSE, ONE OF OUR MOST EXCITING THINGS THAT WE DO EVERY YEAR IS OUR SENIOR DIRECTED SHOWS WHERE OUR SENIORS ACTUALLY PICK A SHOW, THEY CAST THE SHOW, AND THEN THEY DIRECT THE SHOW. SO THEY DO THAT ALL ON THEIR OWN, WHICH IS REALLY COOL TO LET OUR SENIORS HAVE EXPERIENCE. WHAT IT'S LIKE TO STAND IN THE SHOES OF A DIRECTOR AND ACTUALLY DO THEIR SHOWS, IN ONE-ACT PLAY COMPETITION, OF COURSE, IS OUR BIGGEST EVENT OF THE YEAR IN THEATER, WE HAD TWO TECHNICAL CREWS, RECOGNIZED AS ALL STAR TECHNICAL CREWS AT ONE-ACT PLAY COMPETITION. THEY ONLY SELECT ONE FROM EACH DISTRICT, POTEET HIGH SCHOOL WON AT BOTH THE DISTRICT AND BI DISTRICT LEVELS, AND HORN HIGH SCHOOL WON AT THEIR DISTRICT LEVEL. TWO STUDENTS WERE CHOSEN AS BEST PERFORMERS AT ONE-ACT PLAY DISTRICT COMPETITION, SO THEY ONLY CHOOSE TWO AT EACH COMPETITION. THEY CHOOSE, TWO BEST OUTSTANDING PERFORMERS, AND MESQUITE TOOK THEM BOTH, AND THE FIVE-A COMPETITION. SO ONE STUDENT FROM NORTH MESQUITE AND A STUDENT FROM WEST MESQUITE HIGH SCHOOL AND, 22 STUDENTS WERE NAMED TO THE ALL STAR CAST, WHICH WAS A HUGE INCREASE FROM LAST YEAR'S NUMBERS. SO WE REALLY SAW SOME REALLY GREAT, PERFORMANCES AND SOME GREAT COMMITMENT FROM OUR STUDENTS IN ONE-ACT PLAY. OF COURSE. WANT TO CELEBRATE POTEET HIGH SCHOOL? THEY ADVANCED TO BI DISTRICT AND AREA COMPETITION THIS YEAR. IT'S THE FIRST TIME POTEET ADVANCED TO, PAST DISTRICT COMPETITION IN SEVERAL YEARS. SO WE'RE VERY, VERY PROUD OF THEM ADVANCING ALL THE WAY TO AREA, AND WE HAVE TWO BRAND NEW THEATER DIRECTORS THERE. THIS WAS THEIR FIRST YEAR AT THE SCHOOL, SO WE CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WHAT THOSE TWO TALENTED, TEACHERS WILL DO IN THE FUTURE.

AND OF COURSE, WE HAVE TO SAY A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO, THE FINE ARTS ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF.

BRIANNA TURNER HAS SERVED AS OUR VISUAL ART FACILITATOR OF VISUAL ARTS AND THEATER. SHE PUTS A LOT OF THIS WORK TOGETHER, AND REALLY HELPS OUR TEACHERS, MOVE FORWARD AND, AND WITH CURRICULUM AND ANYTHING THAT THEY POSSIBLY NEED, DOCTOR HEIDI GORDON, OF COURSE, IS OUR FACILITATOR, ELEMENTARY MUSIC, WHO'S INVOLVED IN ALL OF OUR FESTIVAL PLANNING AND EVERYTHING. AND JESSICA MANNERS MASTERS, OUR ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT. AND WE WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME, CHERYL LOTT IS JOINING THE RANKS AS OUR FACILITATOR OF VISUAL ARTS WITH THE EXPANSION OF VISUAL ARTS.

REALLY HAPPY THAT THE DISTRICT, HELPED US WITH A FACILITATOR IS GOING TO OVERSEE PRE-K THROUGH 12 VISUAL ARTS, AND THEN BRIANNA TURNER IS GOING TO TAKE ON WE'RE GOING TO PULL DANCE, INTO THE FINE ARTS REALM, AND SHE'S GOING TO TAKE ON THE ROLE AS FACILITATOR OF THEATER AND DANCE. SO WE'RE VERY, VERY THANKFUL. THANKFUL FOR THAT. AND FINALLY, JUST THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT. BOARD OF FINE ARTS EDUCATION, HONESTL, LIKE I SAID, WHENEVER I GO OUT TO THE NORTH TEXAS FINE ARTS SUPERVISORS MEETINGS AND WE TALK, THEY ALWAYS ASK, HOW DO YOU GUYS DO IT IN MESQUITE ISD? HOW DO YOU GET YOUR KIDS IN THE ARTS? HOW DO YOU GUYS HAVE SO MANY MINUTES IN THE ARTS? AND I SAY, IT'S JUST A VERY THOUGHTFUL BOARD, THOUGHTFUL ADMINISTRATION THAT REALLY, REALLY HELPS US OUT. SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF FINE ARTS EDUCATION. SO I'LL TAKE ANY QUESTIONS NOW. WELL, FIRST OFF, THANK YOU FOR THAT GREAT REPORT.

BUT ALSO THANK YOU AND ALL THE FINE ARTS. FOLKS, FOR THE GREAT JOB THEY'RE DOING. IT'S GREAT TO GET MORE OF OUR KIDS ENGAGED IN THIS ACTIVITY. I THINK IT ADDS TO THEIR OVERALL EDUCATION. AND I WANT TO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THAT QUESTION. BOARD MEMBERS, THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

MY WIFE AND I ENJOY DOING THAT. AND WE HAVE FOR MANY, MANY YEARS, GOING ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE DAYS OF JOHN KLEIN. SO THANKS A LOT. YEAH. AND OUR MUSICALS WILL, WE WILL HAVE WE HAVE OUR CALENDAR HELPS US OUT A LITTLE BIT NEXT YEAR, A LITTLE BIT MORE. SO THEY WON'T ALL BE STUFFED INTO ONE WEEKEND LIKE THEY WERE THIS YEAR. SO WE'LL BE ABLE TO GET TO MORE OF THEM AND SEE, SEE EVERY SINGLE SHOW THIS YEAR. YEAH, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. GREAT. BUT WE DO ENCOURAGE YOU TO GO OUT AND WATCH ALL OF THE MUSICALS AND THE PRODUCTIONS THAT WE DO.

THEY'RE REALLY, REALLY INCREDIBLE PRODUCTIONS. AND YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THAT YOU'RE WATCHING HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. GREAT. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
