ANOTHER BIG QUESTION. WE GET A LOT. WHY DO SCHOOLS START ON A WEDNESDAY? YOU SAW THE RESULTS ARE MOST OF OUR STAFF DOES NOT LIKE TO START SCHOOL ON A MONDAY. UM AND HERE'S THE RESULTS THAT WE GOT SURPRISINGLY , OUR PARENTS DID LIKE THE IDEA OF STARTING ON A MONDAY, HOWEVER. 34% SAID. THEY NOT START ON A MONDAY, SO THEY THEY'RE KIND OF ALL OVER THE MAP ON THAT ONE. BUT OUR OUR EMPLOYEES DEFINITELY PREFER TO WEDNESDAY START. HERE'S ANOTHER ONE. AND ONLY 16% OF THE PEOPLE WHO RESPONDED TO THE SURVEY HAVE STUDENTS THAT LIVE IN OTHER DISTRICTS. SO I'M NOT SURE THAT THAT'S AS LARGE AND NOW IF IT IF IT IS YOUR FAMILY, AND THAT'S WHO'S AFFECTED. YEAH, THAT'S A BIG DEAL. UM BUT IT'S IT. THE NUMBERS WISE, IT IS, IS PROBABLY A LITTLE BIT MISLEADING IN TERMS OF HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE AFFECTED BY THAT. UM THIS IS ONE OF OUR LEVERS. IF YOU REMEMBER WE TALKED ABOUT LEVERS LAST TIME WE WERE HERE, AND THOSE ARE THE HIGH YIELD RESEARCH BASED STRATEGIES THAT WE SHARED IN OUR REPORT. YOU CAN SEE THAT 89% OF THE OBSERVED, UM, LITERACY INSTRUCTION HAS MATCHED THE POSTED SCHEDULE OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM. AND I KNOW THAT MAYBE THAT SOUNDS. WHY ARE WE DOING THAT? BUT THIS MEANS THAT LITERACY IS HAPPENING DAILY, ACCORDING TO THE MINUTES ALLOTTED FOR OUR INSTRUCTIONAL, UM, TIME, THAT'S THAT'S GREAT AND WE'RE SURPASSING OUR EO I GOAL BY 4% WHAT'S INTERESTING TO ME IS THAT THIS HAS BEEN STEADY SINCE ABOUT MID OCTOBER. YEAH YOU, UH, MAY BE WONDERING WHY THERE ARE SO MANY MORE CLASSROOM WALKS IN OUR MONOLINGUAL CLASSROOM VERSUS OUR BILINGUAL ONES. GIVEN THAT WE ONLY HAVE THREE BILINGUAL INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES, UM, DISTRICT WIDE THE NUMBER OF LEARNING WALKS IN BILINGUAL CLASSROOMS CAN'T UNFORTUNATELY BE COMPARED TO THE NUMBER OF WALKS IN MODERN LINGUAL CLASSROOMS. THERE'S LIMITATION OF BILINGUAL STAFFING HAS HINDERED OUR OUR ABILITY TO OFFER COMPREHENSIVE SUPPORT.

THIS AREA. WE WILL MAKE SURE THAT OUR PRINCIPLES, THIS DATA AS WELL AND KNOW THAT WE NEED TO BE WALKING IN BILINGUAL CLASSROOMS AS MUCH AS WE ARE IN MONOLINGUALS. HM? ALL RIGHT. AT THIS TIME, THE MAJORITY OF RESPONDENTS REPORTED THAT 92% OF THE OBSERVED INSTRUCTION MATCH THE POSTED LANGUAGE OF THE DAY, AND THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE CELEBRATE EXPOSING STUDENTS TO TWO LANGUAGES. UH, FROM AN EARLY AGE ALLOWS THEM TO DEVELOP LANGUAGE AND LITERACY SKILLS SIMULTANEOUSLY. ALL RIGHT, SO WE'RE GONNA MOVE ON TO GOAL NUMBER TWO. OUR SECOND GOAL IS USING UNIVERSAL SCREENER DATA. WE WILL INCREASE THE NUMBER OF KINDERGARTEN THROUGH THIRD GRADE STUDENTS WHO ARE AT OR ABOVE GRADE LEVEL BY 20% FROM BOY TO EO. I AND THEN GROWTH WILL BE MONITORED THROUGH THE YEAR USING REGULAR DATA COLLECTION CYCLES. THIS IS ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE LEVERS THAT WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT. SO WHEN WE USE UNIVERSAL SCREENING DATA IT HELP TEACHERS KNOW WHICH STUDENTS HAVE INTERNALIZED OR MADE THOSE LITERACY SKILLS MORE AUTOMATIC, WHILE UNIVERSAL SCREENING DATA IS GOOD FOR OUR PURPOSES HERE TONIGHT, TEACHERS NEED MORE SPECIFIC DATA. THIS DATA ALIGNS WITH THE DATA ON THE PREVIOUS SLIDE, STUDENTS MUST BE ABLE TO DECODE A PIECE OF TEXT READ WITH SOME FLUENCY BEFORE YOU WOULD EXPECT TO SEE THEM TAKE THAT TO THE COMPREHENSION LEVEL AND AS STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT IN READING, FLUENCY AND INCREASES, WE'RE GONNA EXPECT TO SEE THAT ALSO INCREASE IN FLU IN, UH, COMPREHENSION AS WELL. OK SO LET'S TALK ABOUT THOSE SPECIFIC SKILLS. I WANTED TO REMIND YOU FIRST, BEFORE WE GET INTO THOSE SPECIFIC SKILLS THAT READING SKILLS BUILD ON ONE ANOTHER, AND STUDENTS MUST DEVELOP PREVIOUS SKILLS. UM, THOSE ONES AT THE BOTTOM, RIGHT? GAPS IN THESE SKILLS ARE INTERESTING BECAUSE THE BRAIN MIGHT FIGURE OUT HOW TO OVERCOME A GAP FOR A LITTLE WHILE, BUT EVENTUALLY. FOR MAYBE EVEN SIXTH GRADE. THEY SHOW UP AND THEY HINDER COMPREHENSION. BREAKDOWNS IN COMPREHENSION ARE OFTEN ACTUALLY DECODING SKILL GAPS. SO A FEW SLIDES AGO, I TOLD YOU THAT ONE OF OUR LEVERS WAS TO UNDERSTAND STUDENT NEEDS THROUGH THE USE OF DIAGNOSTIC DATA. DIAGNOSTIC DATA GIVES THE TEACHER INFORMATION ABOUT INDIVIDUAL READING SKILLS IN THE GRAPHIC ON THE SCREEN. YOU CAN SEE THOSE INDIVIDUAL READING SKILLS THAT BUILD ON ONE ANOTHER. INFORMATION AT THAT SKILL LEVEL. ALLOWS THE TEACHER TO FILL IN SPECIFIC GAPS THAT A STUDENT HAS AND USING DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENTS IS SOMETHING WE HAD TO TEACH OUR TEACHERS HOW TO DO THIS YEAR. THEY'VE NEVER HAD TO DO THAT BEFORE THEY SO WE TAUGHT THEM HOW TO DO THAT THIS YEAR. WE ALSO HAD TO TEACH THEM HOW TO ADDRESS THOSE NEEDS DURING SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION IN A VERY DIFFERENT WAY THAN THEY'RE USED TO DOING. THE LAST SENTENCE OF OUR GOAL. WE'VE BEEN ALSO ABLE TO OFFER SUPPORT THROUGH CURRICULUM BY PROVIDING BILINGUAL TEACHERS WITH SCRIPTED CROSS LINGUISTIC LESSONS. AND ALSO WITH THE NECESSARY RESOURCES AND STRUCTURES TO EMPOWER THEM MEET THE DIVERSE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS. IN ANALYZING THE SURVEY DATA, WE SOUGHT TO UNCOVER INSIGHTS TO BETTER UNDERSTAND TEACHERS PERCEPTIONS TOWARDS THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF BI LITERACY AND THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF THE DIFFERENT STRATEGIES TO SUPPORT BILINGUAL STUDENTS. THE QUANTITATIVE DATA GATHERED INDICATES THAT 95.9% OF TEACHERS OF EB STUDENTS HAVE RECEIVED TRAINING ON B LITERACY AND SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES. 93.9% OF TEACHERS CONSIDER THAT PROFESSIONAL LEARNING SESSIONS HAVE EFFECTIVELY SUPPORTED THEIR BI LITERACY AND SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION INSTRUCTION. 89.8% OF TEACHERS BELIEVE THAT BY LITERACY AND SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION, INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES HAVE CHANGED THE WAY THEY TEACH. AND 93.9% OF TEACHERS AGREE WITH THE FACT THAT BI LITERACY AND SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION INSTRUCTION HAVE HELPED STUDENTS INCREASE THEIR ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY. OTHER QUESTIONS IN THE SURVEY. UM WERE QUALITATIVE. THEY PROVIDED ADDITIONAL CONTEXT TO THE QUANTITATIVE FINDINGS BY HIGHLIGHTING TEACHERS FAMILIARITY WITH THE DUAL LANGUAGE, ONE WAY PROGRAM AND THE 5050 MODEL. PERCEPTION OF BI LITERACY AND THEIR FEELINGS TOWARDS THE RESOURCES AVAILABLE IN CURRICULUM. WE'RE GONNA CONTINUE NOW, WITH GOAL NUMBER FOUR. OUR OBJECTIVE IS TO INCREASE THE READING PERFORMANCE OF BILINGUAL STUDENTS IN KINDERGARTEN THROUGH SECOND GRADE BY THE END OF 2023 2024 SCHOOL YEAR. THERE IS A FUNCTIONAL TRANSFER. UH, IT DOESN'T IMPACT THE FUND BALANCE IS JUST MOVING FROM FUNCTION 11 TO 13 TO MAKE SOME CORRECTIONS IN TERMS OF OUR EXPENSES. SO THAT IS THE GENERAL OPERATING FUND.
